Projects

#ubimic is not a purely theoretically vision. On the contrary, our goal is cutting edge research with high relevance for the ‘real world’. We evaluate the approach in a number of exciting projects with different partners:

#logistics: #ubimic for logistics and production

In cooperation with logistics researchers and a number of companies we are evaluating #ubimic’s capabilities for ad-hoc processes in logistics and productions. For example we are experimenting with a miniatur-version of a factory built with lego stones in order to simulate real world behaviour.

#study: enterprise microblogging tool comparison

The last comparison of tools for enterprise microblogging dates back to 2008. We are currently working on a new version including new market players and open source tools (the 1st version of the study is published here).

#tcc: microblogging for innovation centres

Currently we are working on a concept for the head of Technology Center Chemnitz in order to enable collaboration and information sharing between the  50+ start-ups supported by TCC.

#arinia: microblogging since 1998

We conducted a case study at MEGWARE Computer GmbH to learn from their exciting ‘Arinia’ tool for internal communication, which shows great similiarities to today’s microblogging applications. Based on our microblogging experience we provided approaches for further development of Arinia. The research part of the project has been published at HICSS conference.

#r&d: microblogging for research and development

We developed szenarios for microblogging usage in R&D teams and created the concept and implementation of microblogging systems for a number of research groups including researchers from a number of European universities (Ireko, MikroHips, WorkInNet and TransWork).

#e-learning: e-learning powered by microblogging

We are providing a microblogging platform for bachelor students, master students, Ph.D. students and staff at Business Information Systems department of Chemnitz University of Technology since December 2008. The platform with its 60+ users and 2500+ postings is a great source for empirical knowledge.

#twitter: understanding microblogging

Great sources of knowledge on microblogging are public microblogging services (especially Twitter). In using quantitative methods (i.e. surveys) we are going to understand its principles and basic mechanisms. One result of  these studies is the cm|navigator approach for organisational microblogging implementation and the necessary change management.

#communote: a concept for enterprise microblogging

Our research was the basis for the development of the European enterprise microblogging tool Communote. We introduced the concept of groups for enterprise-ready rights management long before otherer services like Yammer have been launched.
